Full access to Inside Higher Ed content is available through subscription. If your institution has purchased an Institutional Subscription, you will have unlimited access to all articles at no additional cost.

When accessing Inside Higher Ed from your institution’s network or IP address, your access is recognized automatically — no individual subscription required. On the top black toolbar of every Inside Higher Ed webpage, you should see “Institutional Access” displayed in green. While connected through your institution, you also should not encounter article limits or subscription prompts

To access content remotely, connect through your institution’s VPN or library proxy service. Once connected, visit the site as usual, and your access will be recognized automatically.

You may create an account or log in at any time. On the top navigation bar of any Inside Higher Ed webpage, select “Create Account.” If you previously created an account before your institution’s subscription launched, you may instead see “Login.” Use your existing email address and password to sign in.

As you progress through the registration process, we will ask you to fill out some basic information, including your name, title and newsletter preferences. This is so that we can ensure we're sending you the most relevant information.

You can change this information at any time within your account section, including which newsletters you subscribe to.

Signing up for our newsletters is a great way to keep up to date with all the latest news and research across higher education. You can unsubscribe at any time. 

You are logged in when you see “My Account” in the top navigation. Selecting “My Account” will take you to your account dashboard, where you can update your email address and manage your newsletter and communication preferences.

Institutional Subscription FAQs

How do I know whether my university/company has an institutional subscription? 
We would advise checking with your library as the first point of contact. This is often promoted on internal channels within a university or organization, or on a library website. You can also trying subscribing with your work email address. If your institution/company has a subscription, you should be alerted at that time.

How do I know whether my university/company uses the IP Address or the email domain for login?
Try using the instructions above. If that does not work, you can then try using your work email address to log in. For more information about that process, view that instruction page here.

I think my university has an institutional subscription, but I can't seem to access the content?
